Stephens Supermarket, started in 1922 by Homer Stephens, is one of Pilot Point’s oldest and trusted businesses. The store has been faithfully serving the people of Pilot Point and the surrounding areas for 88 years.Stephens Supermarket has remained owned and operated by the Stephens family. Homer passed Stephens Supermarket to Don Stephens, followed by his wife, Betty. Betty passed the supermarket to her son, Robert Stephens and finally Robert passed it to his son, Shannon Stephens.

“The thing I like the most about being in business, is the people I get to see and interact with in the community,” Shannon Stephens said.

Started on The Square, the grocery store moved to U.S. 377 in 1982. In 2006, the grocery store added gas pumps and a car wash. The self-serve gas pumps accept credit cards, debit cards and cash, 24 hours a day.

Although things have changed outside the store, business continues as usual inside. “What sets Stephens Grocery apart from others of its kind is our friendly staff,” Stephens said. “We continue to take our customers’ groceries to their cars. In our meat department, our customers

continue to enjoy high quality freshly cut meat everyday by butcher James Fulmer. James has been our meat manager for 16 years, Bob DeJemett  the store manager for 32 years and Debbie Jones our office manager for over 24 years.

“The one thing we all agree upon is that the heart of running a successful supermarket comes down to giving the people what they want.”
